On August 28th, 2018, the Fayette County Public Library went live on Evergreen Indiana, an open source integrated library system that gives cardholders easy access to over 100 libraries across the state.  The library closed their doors for three day (Aug 24, 25, and 27) to prepare for this change.

“We are very excited to launch this new system,” said library Director Betsy Slavens.  “We’re going to be able to save over $25,000 a year in doing this.  We take closing the library very seriously, but we absolutely needed the time to merge the data and receive training on this system.  When all is said and done, we are really looking forward to sharing Evergreen with Fayette County.”

When the library reopens on the 28th, patrons will need to bring in their library cards and exchange them for Evergreen cards.  “We will ask that patrons complete new registration cards at this time.  We know this may seem inconvenient, but it will be worth it” said Melissa Scott, Assistant Director.  Staff will be asking for identification and proof of residency at this time update records.

Moving to Evergreen Indiana will allow patrons to have access to over 100 libraries’ collections in several different ways.  Patrons can visit another library and check out materials in person or they can have materials shipped to FCPL for no cost.  “The time it takes for materials to be received from another library depends on several factors, including shipment time.  We anticipate requests will be received within a week or two,” Scott said.
“To sweeten the pot a little bit, when you receive a new Fayette County Evergreen card or upgrade your current card between now and September 25th, you will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card courtesy of our wonderful Friends of the Library,” Slavens said.

“Staff will be available to help patrons navigate the new system.  It will be different at first, but over time we will all overcome the growing pains,” said Scott.  “If at any time a patron has questions, our staff will be available to assist them.

Other changes will include library fines and material checkout limits, information on these are available at the library, bookmobile, and online at
